Start of Second Competition in Warsaw

Focus on international collaboration in digital planning: DIGITAL DECATHLON workshop in Warsaw In November2024, the second phase of the DIGITAL DECATHLON planning competition began with an intensive four-day workshop in Warsaw, Poland, with 50 students and their teachers from five European universities. As in the previous year, the focus was on learning in the field of Building Information Modelling (BIM), embedded in an international and interdisciplinary four-day workshop. During the workshops, students from Italy, Poland, Finland and Germany worked in internationally mixed teams in the ten disciplines of the DIGITAL DECATHLON.The tasks served to deepen knowledge and practical skills in the field of BIM and at the same time promote intercultural and interdisciplinary cooperation between the students. On the last day of the workshop, the teams presented their initial results to a jury, which reviewed the work and gave interim assessments. The students now can improve their designs based on the jury's feedback and will present the optimized projects at the final workshop in Joensuu, Finland, in early 2025. There, the teams will face further challenges before the overall winner of the competition is determined. ‘The aim of the DIGITAL DECATHLON is not only to teach BIM, but to use it as a tool to build better, resource-efficient and sustainable’, says Prof Dr Gregor Grunwald, project manager at Jade University. ‘This project once again emphasizes the importance of digital collaboration in overcoming the challenges of modern architecture and construction.’ The DIGITAL DECATHLON is a design competition funded as a cooperation partnership (KA220) by the Erasmus+ program of theEuropean Commission. It is coordinated by the Jade University of Applied Sciences in partnership with Karelia Ammattikorkeakoulu Oy (Finland), Università degli Studi di Firenze (Italy), Bergische Universität Wuppertal (Germany) and Politechnika Warszawska (Poland). The second phase of the competition will be characterized by the project motto ‘Build Digital. Build Better.’ It emphasizes the commitment to using the digital transformation for sustainable,high-quality architecture and at the same time promoting a network of European students through cross border cooperation.
